Monday, August 6th Sandy Springs Ford brought fifteen New Ford vehicles to Walton High School for Drive 4UR School. All day teachers and parents came by the school to take a test-drive and help raise money for the Walton Raiders. It was a beautiful day, and everyone had a great time checking out all the great Ford cars, trucks, and SUVs. I would like to thank everyone that came together to make this possible–staff, parents, teachers and students! We came very close to our goal of $6,000! $1 Million 4 Schools Challenge

Sandy Springs Ford and North Springs Charter High School Join April Challenge to Raise $1 Million for High Schools

Atlanta, GA, 2012 – Educational budget cuts are common, forcing schools in every state to either eliminate valued programs or search for other means of funding.

To address these needs at a local level and empower communities to support and protect valued programs, Ford Motor Company and its dealers partner with high schools across the United States to offer the Drive One 4 UR School program. This initiative has raised more than $10 million through nearly 3,000 events since its inception in 2007, and provides up to $6,000 per school through test drives of Ford products. More than 1,150 dealers have partnered with their local high schools to participate in the program and the funds raised can be applied to any area where the school needs support – athletics, music, even to fix damages from natural disasters.

In April, Ford, its dealers and high schools will attempt to raise a record-setting $1 million in a single month through more than 300 Drive One 4 UR School events throughout the U.S.

Sandy Springs Ford and North Springs Charter High School will host their Drive One 4 UR School event on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 7447 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs, Georgia 30328 from 9:30am to 4pm.

“Our community has been fortunate to have the support of a business leader like Sandy Springs Ford,” said Debra Cohen, NSCHS Spartan Athletics Booster Club President. “We are happy to partner with Ford for a program benefiting our school and our kids.”

“We’ve always believed in our community and the best way to demonstrate that is to support it in every way we can, starting with kids,” said Cohen.

“The Drive One 4 UR School program was developed as a fun, engaging way to help high schools raise and apply money where they need it, and we realized that if we really applied our efforts in April, we could make a greater difference than ever before,” said Tracy Magee, Ford Experiential Marketing Manager. “Our dealers really shine here in going above and beyond to serve their communities by joining with local high schools to raise money and protect important programs and services.”

How Drive One 4 UR School events work

For each Drive One 4 UR School event, Ford and Lincoln dealers work with a local high school to schedule a test drive fundraising event. The dealers provide the cars to be test-driven, the high school organizes the event itself, and both work together to get the word out to their community. For every valid test drive completed, Ford Motor Company donates $20 to the participating high school, up to $6,000.

Making a difference – stories from participating high schools

O’Connell College Preparatory School, Galveston Island, Texas (partnering with Classic Ford): The residents of Galveston Island are still trying to fully recover from the effects of Hurricane Ike, which struck in 2008. O’Connell College Preparatory School lost millions of dollars in books, technology, equipment, furniture, fixtures and vehicles, and the school’s library, cafeteria and locker rooms were damaged. O’Connell’s Drive One 4 UR School event funding will be applied under its general budget to address these losses and damages.

Prestonburg High School, Ivel, Ky. (partnering with Freedom Ford): In early spring, a few schools in the Prestonburg area were badly damaged by tornados. Prestonburg High School forfeited hosting its scheduled Drive One 4 UR School event and donated it to another local high school, Magoffin County High School, which required financial assistance to recover from damages. To recognize the generosity of Prestonburg High School, Ford granted Freedom Ford a second event to host to benefit Prestonburg High School as well.

North Hartford High School, Pylesville, Md. (partnering with Plaza Ford): This year, North Hartford High School will use Drive One 4 UR School funding to finish its long-awaited stadium project, adding concession amenities and locker room improvements for both the home and visiting teams.

On August 14th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Worthmore Jewelers is hosting a car show, jewelry trunk show and art exhibit at 500 Amsterdam Ave. Any and all are invited to cruise in with their classic, collectible, whip or bike for the car cruise hosted by Worthmore Jewelers and Frank Jackson Sandy Springs Ford.  Local car collectors and admirers can enjoy running their eyes over some of the hottest cars on the road, the latest fashions in jewelry and watch design and preview original art by Mark Boomershine and Lawrence Gardinier all in the spirit of fundraising. Guests will have an opportunity to bid on an original painting by Mark Boomershine of Carroll Shelby in a vintage GT500 autographed by Carroll Shelby himself.  All of the proceeds from the sale of the painting will go to the Carroll Shelby Foundation, which is dedicated to providing financial support for children and medical professionals to help overcome life-threatening health issues worldwide, and promoting continuing educational development.  “You have to love what you do, so I decided to make an evening of my four passions; cars, watches, art and helping others. Being a lifelong admirer of Carroll Shelby, I was aware of the great work he does with his foundation, and wanted our event to help him continue to help others,” says Harris Botnick, owner of Worthmore Jewelers.

The evening will begin with admiring the newest coveted Mustang models brought to you by Sandy Springs Ford the Southeast’s largest Shelby Mustang dealership. There will also be a chance to check out all the classic cars and bikes at the cruise in and even a chance to win some of the giveaways including signed Carroll Shelby memorabilia, watches and jewelry.  Then, everyone will move inside for live entertainment, custom fare by US Cafe, cold drinks, and a private trunk show by luxury watch designers Jorg Gray.

Besides jewelry and cars, the event promises to center around the highly-anticipated art works from Lawrence Gardinier, who can transform custom automobiles to canvas, promising a one-of-a-kind piece sure to please even the most discriminating collector.  Lawrence is a self-taught automobile artist who began his career in 1990.  Growing up as a child of a drag racer, Lawrence took an interest to learning the inside and out of the car world and would later grow up around an impressive collection of his father’s gems. Lawrence’s work has been featured internationally in car magazines and can be found in some of the most impressive private collections of car collectors around the globe.

Also a huge draw, Mark Boomershine will showcase rare and eclectic pieces highlighting the very cars that will be on display, and his newest collection called “Barnyard Menagerie.”  Some would say that Mark’s artistic evolution is an extension of the family business.  As the youngest Boomershine of the namesake automotive legacy, an eight-year old Mark found affection for drawing the cars that his father and grandfather loved to sell.  His art became the driving force, so to speak, of his formative years at Atlanta’s Westminster School where he was often found sketching during class or dedicating after school homework hours to the meticulous detailing of his drawings.  Teachers recognized his natural gift and helped to cultivate his talents by immersing Mark in artistic outlets whenever possible.  His involvement with Westminster’s Advanced Placement art program solidified his decision to continue to fortify his artistic skills.  Mark attended the University of Alabama where he earned degrees in both Business and Art, and had the unique opportunity to study under the famed artist, Frank Stella. Mark’s work can be found in private collections throughout the US and in Smithsonian’s western museum, the Booth Museum.
