The redesigned Ford Escape is a stark departure from its more rugged-looking predecessor. Looks aside, the 2013 Escape got a much-needed update in every respect, especially with its new trio of fuel-efficient four-cylinder powertrain options and richly appointed cabin, according to Cars.com Managing Editor David Thomas. There are some issues, though, including an archaic system for folding the rear seats.

Plug-in hybrid most fuel efficient sedan in North America

The company has launched five electrified vehicles in the past 18 months, the latest being the Fusion Energi, a mid-size sedan that made big news right out of the box when the US. Environmental Protection Agency proclaimed it North America’s most fuel-efficient sedan. Its 108 MPGe city rating bested the Toyota Prius plug-in by 5 MPGe (see info box for explanation on MPGe). The Fusion Energi metric conversion is 1.9Le/100 km in all-electric mode and 4.5L/100 km in hybrid mode. [Read more]

It’s no secret that Ford is planning to provide plenty of hoopla to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang when it rolls off the line next year. However, what the 2015 Mustang has been kept under wraps: until now. Look for Ford to uncover this all-new Mustang design as a 2015 model sometime in 2014. Though covered from front to rear – no bumpers on this early prototype – there are a few details of changes that can be detected. Up front are headlight openings that indicate the lamps are set high on the front fenders, not down low in the grille. So too, at the rear, the taillights are set higher in the trunk. [Read more]
